Our Story
Father: The man who started it all
Son: The man who keeps on walking…
Once Upon a Time in 1974…
Building upon a generation of educators, the goal of Intermarc ECCS is to maintain a family run enterprise to continue the legacy of our grandfathers that had initially started with the creation of a comprehensive K-12 school that had, during its best days, 1000 students enrolled with its own boarding school. The brain and key players behind the creation of the school were 2 people: father and son; father, with a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from Temple University, a writer of volumes of school books for early childhood education; and son, a mechanical engineer, a genius, whose respect for his father and his determination to fulfill his fathers’ dream of creating a comprehensive school made it all happen.
While the school lived long enough to plant the seeds of our grandfather’s take on education, the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) swung into action. The school could no longer maintain enrollment, it shut down, and the land was sold, following the passing away of our grandfather, the motivational force behind this project. Most of the families, immediate and extended, dispersed, some never to return, with the exception of the determined engineer who stayed close with the hopes of some day, returning to Lebanon.
The year 2000…
While a decade later, 2000 was a turning point in this family’s itinerary of globetrotting. The story of 5 members of the nuclear family started to gel, location and aspiration-wise.
Location: Lebanon
Aspiration: The fulfillment of our grandfather’s legacy.
Long story short: The first members to arrive back to Lebanon were father & mother – father to establish his own freelance business enterprise to be named Intermarc, a Trading and Engineering Firm. Frazzled mother, because after being uprooted enough times to overshadow the travels of Marco Polo, decided that Lebanon was where she should expire, or die trying.
Both mother and father packed away their still smoking passports, stored their luggage and picked up their lives from where they had left off.
One by one, the children followed suit:
Child #1: Prim and proper - a Ph.D. holder in environmental engineering, decided to move back to Lebanon in 2006 after 23 years of living aboard, pursuing Masters from London School of Economics (LSE), and gaining work experience under different skies.
Child #2: After embarking on a life long journey on a pursuit of higher education, a Ph.D. holder from Purdue University in early childhood development, decided to move back to Lebanon in 2008 after 23 years of living abroad, embarking on her professional career in her home country.
Child #3: The most adventurous one of the trio, an Ed.D holder in Teacher Education from the University of Pennsylvania, mixing education with music, and dreaming of establishing herself as a lounge singer one fine day.
In 2008…
INTERMARC was re-established as INTERMARC ECCS (Early Childhood Consulting & Contracting Services) in Lebanon to provide early and middle childhood consulting and contracting services.
The brains and key players who saw the birth of Intermarc ECCS were, once again, 2 people, both of whom you have met: Father, who as you know, comes from a family with strong educational foundation and reputation, and years of experience in construction and design for quality educational centers, with a passion for education as a whole, and the other brain, Child #2: Upon her return back to Lebanon, faced with the sad reality of seeing a large number of children not having equal access to quality education. Given the lack of attention at a national level, to hundreds of these cases, it was time to unite knowledge and expertise to bring about change; positive change for children, teachers, parents, and the community as a whole.
